SAP2000 is a software application that manages enterprise resource planning (ERP) processes for managing the day-to-day operations of an organization. The program has two versions, one in use around the world and one not in use globally. It was released on July 1st, 2002, and it has been continuously updated ever since. There are currently about ten thousand installations of the product worldwide whereas SAP R/3 (the previous version) had more than 35,000 functionalities available to customers during its peak usage time period in 2010. This number of functions is what made SAP R/3 quite popular amongst numerous organizations at different levels throughout the world. SAP2000 provides all the core business administration (BA) functionalities of SAP R/3. It is designed to be used by small and midsize businesses to big corporations who do not need all the functionalities of SAP R/3 to manage their entities, but only need the core BA functions. One of the main reasons why it is almost never used by enterprises that are larger than midsize is that it provides only 10,000 lines of code compared to SAP R/3's 14 million or so lines. This justifies the practice adopted by many firms in using one ERP suite for managing their entire organization rather than combining two ERP systems together for better efficiency. SAP2000 is the newest member of the SAP family, which includes SAP ERP Central Component, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise/Adaptive Server Anywhere, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database. These components differ from each other in terms of programming language and its underlying structure. SAP2000 is written in ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming), a high-level language that promotes program portability and data integrity based on the Ada programming language. It is compatible with Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT/2000, Novell NetWare 3.x, 4.x and 5.x, Solaris 2. 6 and 7, and Mac OS 9/X.The main functions of SAP2000 are: SAP2000's administrative module is the so-called “back office”. It has three main parts: administration, planning and procurement. The procurement module lets the user define procurement rules such as ordering, pricing rules and purchasing criteria. These rules can be saved in files called “executables” that can then be used to automatically carry out all or some of these procedures. SAP2000 includes multiple tools that help users with database management tasks such as database design, database backup/recovery, data conversion between old and new databases. Many users have enjoyed using SAP2000 because it is very easy to set up and comes with a convenient user interface. Additionally, it is very intuitive which makes the program very user friendly. Gartner Group has ranked SAP2000 as the world's best ERP package for 9 years in a row. SAP2000 version 16.0 was scheduled to be released by the end of 2007 but was pushed back to 2008 because of quality issues. The latest release is SAP 2000 16.0 SP3 which was released on September, 2008. The software will not be upgraded to any subsequent versions until 2008 for compatibility with the future versions of the NetWeaver Application Server Platform (ASP). cfa1e77820
